Robert Dassanowsky Obituary, Death – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of CU Distinguished Professor and UCCS Professor Robert von Dassanowsky. Dr. von Dassanowsky, a revered member of the UCCS faculty since 1993, leaves behind an enduring legacy in the fields of German and Visual and Performing Arts. A true trailblazer, he founded the film studies program at UCCS and was a pioneering figure in Austrian film studies. His academic contributions extended to Austrian-Hungarian literature, and he was an esteemed authority on Austrofascism.
Dr. von Dassanowsky’s remarkable career is reflected in his extensive publication record, which includes three single-authored books, ten edited books, and over 60 referred articles. Internationally and locally acclaimed, he received prestigious awards such as Austria’s Order of Merit, the University of Colorado’s Thomas Jefferson Award, and the title of University of Colorado Distinguished Professor, celebrated on our campus in February of this year.
At UCCS, he played a pivotal role as the co-founder and faculty advisor of the UCCS Student Short Film Festival. Dr. von Dassanowsky’s impact went beyond academia; he mentored film students and received heartfelt testimonials attesting to the transformative influence he had on their lives. During this difficult time, the Wellness Center is available for students affected by this loss, and the CARE Team offers additional support.
