Acceptance without exception

Stonewall UK is a charitable foundation and an organisation that has been working to secure equality and rights for the LGBT community. Through campaigning and lobbying, the organisation works with leaders and political parties to make services and goods accessible to the community.

Supported by LBGT Diversity, Stonewall UK recently hosted the Stonewall Youth Awards. On 4th May, campaigners and supporters gathered together to celebrate the efforts and contribution of the former in changing the lives of people belonging to LGBT community. One of the campaigners, Anna Bailward won the Young Campaigner Award and was given the award by Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix.

Thirlwall, who has been an ardent supporter of LGBT community rights, made a point of attending this important event to showcase her support for the cause. She shared her excitement and said,

‘I’m so glad I came here… I dropped everything to be here.’

The sentiment of excitement was shared by everyone. As much as Thirlwall was happy being at the event, the audience too was elated to see her participating in the conversation:

Jade went on to explain the objective behind her attendance and said,

‘I want to encourage more artists to raise the flag as allies to the LGBT community and help people people accept themselves’.

A lot of artists have started coming forth to showcase their support for LGBT community but we need more participation. We haven’t yet reached the point where their existence is “normal” and their dignity as human beings secured. In other words, we have a long way to go.
